Attachment Counselling

About the counselling service:

Attachment Counselling (Modified Interaction Guidance) is about helping parents to become the best mom or dad that they can be. It is about learning how to help children feel good about themselves, develop a strong sense of self-esteem, and feel secure and confident in life. Building trust in a child starts during infancy. It will make all the difference in how your child will relate to you and cope with challenges as he or she grows older. It will have a direct impact on how secure and emotionally ready your child will be for school and for doing well in life.

Format:

You and your child are videotaped during play time, then, you and the counsellor review the video from the perspective of "Watch, Wait and Wonder".

Is Attachment Counselling for you?

If any of the following statements apply to you, then Attachment Counselling might be for you:

  • I feel overwhelmed in my parenting role.
  • I have difficulty settling my crying or upset child.
  • Routines, feeding and sleeping issues are a real struggle for me.
  • I feel my child deliberately does things to get to me.
  • I experience power struggles with my child.
  • I was neglected or abused as a child and fear the effect this may have on my child.
  • My child and I spend little quality time together.
  • The relationship I have with my partner is negatively affecting my parenting.
  • I am feeling very stressed in handling my child.
  • Other issues between me and my child are getting to me.

Please discuss any parenting concerns you may have and see if you can benefit from this parent-child focused counselling.
