Brighter Futures and Buns in the Oven extend a warm “welcome back” to Chantal de la Sablonnière. Chantal has been hired as the Administrative Assistant for both projects. She first worked with us as Office Assistant from January to December 2004, then with St. Mary’s Home as Receptionist from January to March 2005. Chantal’s many talents include strong organizational skills, a lot of intuitive and experience-based knowledge of computer and audiovisual equipment and programs, and a kind dedication to the young families of the Young/Single Parent Support Network.

You may reach Chantal at the St. Mary’s Home Outreach Centre at (613) 749-4584 ext. 765.

Welcome, Brian!

Brighter Futures and St. Mary's Home are pleased to announce that Brian Desjardins, the Young Fathers' Program Support Counsellor, has relocated his primary office to the St. Mary's Home Outreach Centre at 780, rue de L'Église, Ottawa, ON K1K 3K7. Brian will continue to facilitate the Wednesday Group Night and the Saturday Drop-in at Youville Centre.

Brian has been with the Young Fathers' Program since October 2002. He is the proud father of an 8 year old girl and has been married for 14 years. He has 18 years' experience working with youth and their families, including 16 years with the Roberts/Smart Centre (children's mental health). He brings with him a wealth of counselling experience and a genuine interest in supporting young fathers.

The Young Fathers' Program has five components:

  1. The Weekly Group Night: peer support, sports, conversation, guest speakers, a nutritious meal, etc... (for dads aged 15 to 25).

  2. It's My Child Too: a parenting program just for dads on a wide range of topics related to parenthood and relationships (for all dads with children aged 0 to 6).

  3. Father/Child Drop-in: a fun time for dads and their children to play and learn.

  4. One-to-One Counselling: short term support focussed on relationships, work, anger/stress management, etc...

  5. Independent Learning Courses: credits towards a high school diploma.

All programs are FREE.

You may reach Brian at (613) 749-4584 ext. 711.
