Brighter Futures and
Buns in the Oven extend a warm “welcome back” to Chantal de
la Sablonnière. Chantal has been hired as the Administrative
Assistant for both projects. She first worked with us as
Office Assistant from January to December 2004, then with
St. Mary’s Home as Receptionist from January to March 2005.
Chantal’s many talents include strong organizational skills,
a lot of intuitive and experience-based knowledge of
computer and audiovisual equipment and programs, and a kind
dedication to the young families of the Young/Single Parent
Support Network.

Congratulations
to Lise Skinner who has been selected as the new CAPC/CPNP
Assistant Project Manager. Lise has demonstrated a profound
commitment and
strong understanding of the mission, goals
and objectives of both the YSPSN and our Public Health
Agency of Canada funded projects.
Lise has been with Brighter Futures and Buns in the Oven for
almost 10 years. She looks forward to continuing to work
closely with community organizations in providing support
services to pregnant youth and young families.

Welcome, Brian!
Brighter Futures and St. Mary's Home are pleased to announce
that Brian Desjardins, the Young Fathers' Program Support
Counsellor, has relocated his primary office to the
St.
Mary's Home Outreach Centre at 780, rue de L'Église, Ottawa,
ON K1K 3K7. Brian will continue to facilitate the Wednesday
Group Night and the Saturday Drop-in at Youville Centre.
Brian has been with the Young Fathers' Program since October
2002. He is the proud father of an 8 year old girl and has
been married for 14 years. He has 18 years' experience
working with youth and their families, including 16 years
with the Roberts/Smart Centre (children's mental health). He
brings with him a wealth of counselling experience and a
genuine interest in supporting young fathers.
The Young Fathers' Program has five components:

The Weekly Group Night: peer support, sports,
conversation, guest speakers, a nutritious meal, etc... (for
dads aged 15 to 25).

It's My Child Too: a parenting program just for dads on
a wide range of topics related to parenthood and
relationships (for all dads with children aged 0 to 6).

Father/Child Drop-in: a fun time for dads and their
children to play and learn.

One-to-One Counselling: short term support focussed on
relationships, work, anger/stress management, etc...

Independent Learning Courses: credits towards a high
school diploma.
All programs are FREE.
